Christopher and I have both been working around the clock--his dissertation is due in 3 weeks; my PhD comprehensive exam in 2 weeks. But we decided to take the morning off because we had to leave our car at the mechanic for a checkup. We ate croissants, and went to an 11 o'clock movie in the theater across the street from the mechanic, where we were the only people there. It was a simple, amazing, inexpensive luxury to get a morning off together, even if it was the result of a shared errand. There some difficult parts of being a grad student, but having the flexibility to go to a movie on a Friday morning and to spend the afternoon trading revisions with your beau is pretty amazing.
P.S. Kendi, I copied your outfit (and what better inspiration is there?).

I love the trench!!
Sounds like an AWESOME start to your weekend. :) love, love thos danskos!
Best form of flattery there is!
Love it! You look really classy.
this outfit works so well because it is both simple and sophisticated at the same time! love it :) sounds like you had a really fun morning too

What a wonderful morning and a beautiful outfit! I love the trench!
You are so correct, there are few better inspirations! :)
You make me miss grad school though. I miss being able to do things like Friday morning movies! This whole 9-5 thing is so overrated! Perhaps I will have to go back for a doctorate after all. I think I would be happy being a student for the rest of my life if it weren't for the meager paycheck. :)
Wow, what a crazy time in your house!! I hope you guys have a great trip or something else planned for this summer to celebrate accomplishing these huge milestones. I'm so glad you have a partner who helps you share these much needed moments of zen. Good luck to both of you on your final preparations!
Love the outfit, too-- the deep burgundy accents really make the look for me.
You two must be super busy right now. But, it sounds like you got a small date in. I feel like you just sort have to do the best you can and work with the time you have.

Very laid back and stylish look. I always love seeing that checkered J Crew shirt styled!
what a fun day. You look adorable!
Sounds like a perfect morning to me. :) Grad school life sounds so crazy and hectic, but it's good to know that there is still some time to have fun, haha.
Also, I really like this outfit! It's really simple and I love Kendi's blog! :D

I don't miss bartneding but I do miss my mornings off. It feels like you're in on some secret no one else knows about.
Flexible scheduling is indeed one of the most fabulous luxuries of grad. school.
I absolutely, positively cannot BELIEVE you look so sane 2 weeks before your comps. I was out of my mind. Then again, I was also 5 months pregnant and ridiculously sick, so I guess that had something to do with it. Anyway, I had no idea you were so close to your exams--I will be sending some extra smart vibes to the literature gods for you.
There's nothing better than a secret, day-of-the-week date!
I'm at uni doing my second degree, and I always feel like I'm getting away with something when I do something fun in the middle of the day! It's the best feeling! I went op-shopping (I think you guys call it "thrift shopping") in the early afternoon this week- so much fun! Great Danskos again, Tania!

Love this outfit! Catching a movie would make any errand a million times more fun!
i want your double belt!
Once I finish the challenge, trouser jeans are the first item on my shopping list! I love yours! And jeez, I have no idea how you do the blogging and the teaching and the grad student thing! You are wonder woman! It's my first year in grad school, and I am SWAMPED all the time just by school stuff!
My husband and I are both teachers - me at a university, him at an elementary school - and sometimes if he has a teacher workday we can get lunch together. It's such a treat when that happens. I really like this outfit - it looks classy and comfortable. It must be warming up wherever you are if you're wearing a trench coat instead of a parka. Yay spring!

Lovely preppy look and i'm glad that you had some quality time with your hubby :)

I am wearing the same outfit today. Even down to the clogs.(Except no belt on me) Imagine my surprise when I looked at your blog and saw this. Great minds. :)
beautiful outfit - i can see Spring peeking through!
That's awesome about your morning date! It's so interesting to see how grad school is different for people with different disciplines (I'm in biomedical science). You've totally inspired me to not resign to jeans and a sweatshirt every day like most of my classmates! This look is simple, classy and looks totally comfortable.. exactly what I need for lab! :)
can i just say that i'm jealous of your danskos? i'm like an old lady. my feet hurt all the time. and i look at them and think "heaven!" i really should invest in a pair.
and while i'm at it, i'm jealous of your trench too! i have no in between coats. its either heavy wool or nothing at all. you look great!!

I love your jeans, they're the perfect shape & colour. thank god the skinny jeans trend seems to finally be fading away!
they're perfect with your shirt too.
I love this outfit - all basics but perfectly put together
I love this outfit because it is so wearable and chic!
